About Us

Vision
In 1995, a group of passionate philanthropists from Hoshiarpur, led by NRI Sh. Tegpal Singh, came together with a heartfelt dream: to create a safe and nurturing haven for differently-abled children in our region. This dream took shape as the Ashadeep Welfare Society, dedicated to empowering children with intellectual disabilities and helping them shine.
The Beginning: Ashakiran Special School
Our journey began on May 1, 1995, with the establishment of Ashakiran – Special School for Intellectually Disabled Children, a project under the Ashadeep Welfare Society. With just a single room, one chair, and two benches—generously provided by Smt. Tripta Devi Sud and Dr. Shiv Charan Dass Sud Trust—our humble school opened its doors to four children. Miss Reena Sharma, our first principal and in-charge, along with two dedicated staff members, laid the foundation for what would become a beacon of hope for many families.

As word spread and more families sought our support, it became clear that we needed more space to grow.
A New Home: Growth and Expansion
In 1997, philanthropist Sh. Om Parkash Sood kindly offered us the use of Thakar Dass Sood Sarai, rent-free, on Una Road, Hoshiarpur. This new home allowed us to welcome more students, but soon, even this space was not enough for our expanding family.
With the generous assistance of Late Col. A.S. Gill, Sarpanch Sh. Jugal Kishore, and the Gram Panchayat of Jahan Khelan, we were allotted one acre of land in 2002. Construction of our permanent campus began in 2004, and our school continues to grow, thanks to the unwavering support of our community.
Helping Hands: Building a Brighter Future
Our journey has been made possible by the kindness of many:
In July 2005, we completed the first block of our new school building and moved to Jahan Khelan.
Smt. Ambika Soni, Member of Parliament, contributed Rs. 15 Lacs from the MPLAD Fund for construction.
Business associates of Sh. Paramjit Sachdeva from Mumbai, inspired by their visit in 2006, donated Rs. 12 Lacs for expansion. A block was named in memory of their dear friend, Sh. Nirmal Bang.
In loving memory of S. Jagjit Singh Sachdeva, father of S. Paramjit Singh Sachdeva, a generous donation was made for further development.
In December 2008, to honor Sh. Paramjit Sachdeva’s dedication, our school was renamed Jagjit Singh Sachdeva Ashakiran Special School.
